Scope and Content
The file contains the original glass slide identification sheets that accompanied the “Some North Dakota Birds” glass slides (11 leaves), produced by O.A. Stevens. The sheet is numbered 1 to 54, and gives a description that corresponded with a number found printed on the glass slide in the set. The slides were originally housed in a wooden box, created for shipment to various educational institutions around the state. Also included are original shipping labels for the “Visual Instruction Service, Agricultural College, North Dakota”. One of the cards is filled out by Glenn Scott, and is dated April 3, 1929.

Biography
Professor O. A. Stevens spent his life studying plants, birds, bees, and wasps. During his 67-year career at
North Dakota Agricultural College/State University, he focused on finding better ways to understand and
live with nature. His pioneer efforts in identification of plants and weeds, the habits of bees and wasps,
and banding and monitoring bird migration brought national and worldwide recognition as a naturalist.
