Biographical / Historical

Dr. William C. Hunter, professor emeritus of history archivist for the North Dakota Institute for Regional Studies, joined the faculty at North Dakota State University of Agriculture and Applied Sciences in 1923 as chairman of the Department of History and Politics. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree with honors from Princeton in 1905, a Master’s Degree from Harvard in 1911, and his Ph.D. at Princeton in 1923. After earning his masters, he taught on the college level at schools in Pennsylvania, Iowa, and Ohio.

He served as Chairman of the History and Politics Department until 1940 when his title changed to Chairman of Social Sciences. He retired from that position in 1952, retaining the title of Professor Emeritus of History. In 1953 he accepted the job of archivist with the North Dakota Institute for Regional Studies. He died in 1973 at the age of 91.
