Biographical / Historical
The Campus Building Names Committee was first formed by President H. R. Albrecht in August 1962 to make recommendations for the naming of campus buildings and streets, for eventual approval by the Board of Higher Education. The original members of the committee were Mr. Stanley Murray (chair), Mr. Harry Graves, Mr. Royal Berstler, Mr. W.A. Plath, and Dr. Warren Whitman. President Albrecht wanted a committee made up of faculty and alumni to assist in naming building and streets on campus after prominent figures in NDSU’s history. In doing so, he hoped to make the campus more family oriented. The committee became dormant in the mid-1960s, but was revived by then Vice President Lauren D. Loftsgard in 1968. During its tenure, numerous alumni and NDSU faculty served on the committee and succeeded in securing names for numerous campus landmarks, from Seim Hall to Bolley Drive.
