History

According to the F-M tourism website, the Memorial Union Gallery opened during Homecoming Week in 1953 because students and alumni wanted a place dedicated to art to help fulfill NDSU’s Land Grant Mission. The gallery underwent a massive renovation from 2005 – 2007. The gallery hosts a permanent including pieces from noted artists including Andy Warhol, Oscar Howe, and Frank Stella. The Memorial Union also owns collections from Ralph Engel, the Lakeside Studio, and NDSU student works. The gallery exhibits art from local, national, and international artists, student baccalaureate art projects, interior design final projects, and architecture and landscape architecture thesis projects.
