Biographical / Historical
Institutional accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), also known as regional accreditation, provides assurance to current and prospective students and other stakeholders that credits and degrees earned from North Dakota State University meet quality standards of higher education. Accreditation is a requirement for federal financial aid and may be a requirement for some employment opportunities, professional licensures, and graduate education.
To ensure continued commitment to educational quality, accreditation requires periodic institutional and program reviews. The accreditation process provides an opportunity for NDSU to assess our own successes and challenges over time and make planning decisions for the future. NDSU last received reaffirmation of accreditation during the 2015-2016 academic year and the next comprehensive evaluation is scheduled for the 2025-2026 academic year.
The mission of the Office of Assessment is to advance a culture of learning improvement at NDSU. The office helps campus departments develop tools to help promote learning outcomes and how-to better support students. This is done by helping to develop program learning outcomes, constructing curriculum maps, and help with creating an assessment plan.
