Abstract The Barnes County, N.D. Aerial Photograph Collection consists of 190 high altitude, 9x9 inches, photographic prints, covering approximately 401 square miles of land in east central North Dakota. The majority of the images are located in Barnes County with approximately 353 square miles; however there are 9 square miles in the southeast corner of Griggs County, 21 square miles in the southwest corner of Steele County, and 18 square miles in the northwest corner of Ransom County also represented.

Abstract A diverse collection of images taken by Mr. Olson, that spans from the 1950s to the 1980s and its images include such topics as the Fargo tornado in 1957, Native Americans, and the Vietnam War. Most were taken by Cal Olson while photographic journalist for the Fargo Forum. These negatives give a good reflection of life in Fargo, Moorhead and the Red River Valley, featuring newsworthy events of the era.

Scope and Contents These photographs from the Fargo Forum newspaper company have been arranged alphabetically by topic. They comprise the oversize photographs of a larger donation by the Forum. There are aerial views of the Fargo area, downtown Fargo, Great Northern Railroad, and residential areas. Views of Broadway, an early birds eye view engraving from 1882, fire of 1893, Gunkelman & Sons Seeds plant-fire on November 30, 1958, the Forum building, and harness racing at the fairgrounds.

Most of the photographs apparently were taken by staff of the Fargo Forum, likely for a special edition and series of articles devoted to the oil industry that were published in the newspaper.
