Carrie Craker Letters

Abstract Transciption of 35 letters written by Carrie and and W.A. Craker from Gladstone, N.D. primarily to her brother Eldorus Labare at Omena as well as her parents. There are also several letters by Eldorus when in North Dakota and Wisconsin. In addition there is a copy of a newspaper article written in 1883 by W.A.'s uncle Robert Lee from Gladstone regarding the area and promoting immigration. It was published in The Enterprise of Leelanau, Michigan.

Charles H. Hobart Papers

Abstract Consists of typscript copies of five letters written by Hobart to his nephews in which he reminiscences about his pioneer years in North Dakota, beginning in 1881 when he came to visit Fargo and his wife's brother Burleigh F. Spalding. He then purchased farm land near Cummings, N.D. where he brought his wife the next year from New Hampshire. Reminiscences are very detailed in describing his life, the hardships of pioneer life, breaking land, building farm buildings, farming, and family.
