Will Carruthers is listed in the 1887 Fargo city directory as a photographer living on Washington (1st Avenue So.) west of 7th Street. He might have been living with the Samuel Logan, since the Logan family lived at 710 Washington. He may be the same William John Carruthers, listed in Biographies of Western Photographers, was active in San Jose, California from about 1899-1902. The 1920 census listes this William Carruthers as being born in Minnesota, age 51. He was married to a Kate C., and had one daughter Catherine. 1880s
