Alf (Alfred) Chial was born January 20, 1879 in Vermland, Sweden.  Sometime after arriving in the United States in 1896, he married Olga Bergman of Lake Park, Minnesota.  Together they had seven children, Ruth, Pearl, Lillian, Ruby, Stanley, Roma, and Darrell. Mr. Chial first worked as a photographer in Lake Park around 1912. 

Between 1920 and 1930, Mr. Chial traveled around the world four times and took phopographs in many countries.  In 1923 he came to Fargo, N. D.and became a travel agent.

In 1930 he became a coal distributor, and by 1932 he had added a photography business.  He continued his photography business until sometime after 1940.  He was associated with Walter Schramm for a short time in 1936, known as the Chial Genelli Studio, located at 4 1/2 South Broadway.

After his photography career he held various jobs.  He died in Plentywood, Montana on August 11, 1953, and his wife Olga died on April 12, 1954.
