William Franklin Clow was born in Ontario, Canada in May 20, 1855. He was the son of Charles and Sarah (Hunt) Clow. He immigrated to the United States in 1872 and moved to Fargo around 1881. He is listed as W. F. Clough working for F. Jay Haynes in the 1881 city directory. In 1882 he is listed as a salesman. He does not appear again until 1885 when his profession is given as a photographer in both the city directory and the census. He was single when living in Fargo but was married shortly thereafter to Sarah W. (last name unknown). Sarah was born in December 1861 in Canada.
In about 1886, Mr. Clow moved to Lisbon, North Dakota where he operated
a studio until 1900. He also operated a studio in Edgeley, N.D. in 1900.
Likely the Vera V. Clow who died in Lisbon, N.D. on February 17, 1888
at the age of six months was their daughter. In the 1900 census his name
is given as Franklin W. Sometime after 1900 he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota
where he worked as a clerk for a grain terminal. He died in Minneapolis
on March 3, 1909, at the age of 53.
