Karoline filed on her land when she was 64 years old and lived there for about 12 years. Two of her sons and a daughter filed on claims nearby.

Anna Hensel
Hettinger 1903

Anna came to the United States from Bessarabia, Russia, at the age of 67. When she was 69, she declared her intent to become a citizen and applied for a homestead. She stayed on the homestead for 11 years, making a home for her daughter, son-in-law, and their children.

Ingeborg Knudson
McHenry 1900

Ingeborg was living with her brother in Hatton, North Dakota, when his two sons went to McHenry County to homestead. She went along to keep house for them and soon filed on her own land at age 63.
