From the Collection: Donor letter, and typed reminiscence "Narrative of James Sweeney," (12 leaves), as related to J. Ross Mackenzie (dated June 1, 1921), concerning Mr. Sweeney's life in the 5th U.S. Army in the 1850s and gold prospecting in Colorado, Utah and Nevada. Includes mention of the Mountain Meadows massacre, army duty in Texas, Florida, and Utah, pioneer wagon trains, rationing food, freight hauling in Nebraska, Wyoming, and S.D.
