The Philippine (Baumgartner) Berglund and Agnes (Baumgartner) Wudtke Family Collection includes various family histories, genealogy, education materials, photographs, recipes, multimedia, and textiles. In addition, there are many scrapbooks and photograph albums that belonged to Agnes and Philipine with photographs showing their early life, college days and later years with family.

The collection contains information, records, and photographs regarding the Baumgartner, Miller, and related families dating from the 1890s into the 1990s. The majority of the material is about family members, spouses and children; and education and important events in and around Emmons County, North Dakota, and the cities of Strasburg and Linton in that county.

The Philippine (Baumgartner) Berglund Series contains a few report cards, County Superintendent of Schools campaign cards, speeches, certificates, correspondence, endowment materials, and funeral guest book. Dates range from 1934 into the 1990s.

The Gustav Berglund Series contains newspaper articles, awards received, memorial materials, and funeral guest book. The Gus Berglund Education Series has his graduate papers and theses dating from 1961 to 1971 including a report for Emmons County and the city of Linton.

The Agnes Baumgartner Wudke Series contains teaching material from 1932 through 1954, report cards, school autograph album, scholarship materials, and funeral guest book, with date ranging from 1928 to 1977. The Agnes Baumgartner Wudtke Education Series contains school documents, teaching records and materials dating from 1932 to 1975.

A Family History Series has family histories regarding Baumgartner, Berglund, Miller, Volk, Silbernagel, Kramer and Bachmeier-Braun families. There are news articles about family members, memorial cards for family and friends, and family correspondence, 1928-1974

A Certificate Sub-Series contains certificates for Johannes and Odelia Baumgartner and Rose Senger. Subjects are baptism and citizenship dating from 1894 to 1911, and school from 1930 to 1933.

The Guestbook Sub-Series contains family funeral guest books not found in other series.

A Miller Family Sub-Series has Miller/ Mueller genealogy as well as Donald Miller’s baby book, school achievements and awards. Donald’s dates range from 1936 to 1998.

An Emmons County Series has photographs, newsclippings, a school bulletin, alumni program, and banquet program. Dates range from 1940 to 1976.

The Ephemera Series contains a calling card of Leo Kraft, receipt for photos from Koeppen Studio, Linton dated 1964, and a note to Mary and Pete from Marie F. Klein. There is also a 1979 ordination card for Pete Kramer, Priest.

A Recipe Series has four files, one directly attributed to Philippine Baumgartner. Series includes recipe cards, hand-written recipes, clippings and one comb-bound recipe book.

The Photograph Series includes a large number of loose photos including real photo postcards, family photos, and number of unidentified photographs. Dates range from the late 1800s through the 1990s, regarding travel, friends of all ages, funerals and other ceremonies.

The Baumgartner Photograph Sub-Series has images of Philippine and Gus, Agnes, Rose Senger Baumgartner. Dates range from 1920s to the 1990s.

The Wikenheiser Photograph Sub-Series has images of Tillie Ann (Mrs. Jack Domito). Dates range from the 1930s to 1998.

The Miller Family Sub-Series contains images of family members including Donald and Pearl. Dates range from 1940s to 1998. A file for Peter Mueller dated 1923 is included.

An Events Sub-Series has photos of commencements, reunions, groups, burials, schools and businesses. Military photos from 1925 to 1952 are included. Dates range from the 1920s to the 1980s.

A Travel Sub-Series contains photographs with correspondence. Dates range from the 1920s to the 1990s.

The Artifact Series includes playing cards and a pinback button for Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Strasburg, ND, and a metal disk with two photographs.

The Scrapbook Series contains mostly personal memorabilia for Philippine and Agnes. Dates range from 1929 to 1972 and include college days, teaching, a wedding, sympathy cards and travel.

A Photograph Album Series has albums from both Philippine and Agnes. They contain photographs of family and friends, travel photos, and students. Dates are mostly from the 1960s and 1970s.

The Multimedia Series includes cassette tapes and film reels showing family vacations, a Christmas program, the prayer service for Rose Baumgartner, Philippine’s educational speeches and an interview with Philippine from 1997. Date range from 1967 to1997.

The Textile Series consists of a black wool shawl dating from 1880 to 1900; a black silk shawl with embroidered floral motifs dating from the 1880s to around 1910; a pair of black high-heeled boots decorated with rhinestones, cut glass, sequins and braid from the 1960s; an ankle length, black rayon faille skirt circa 1950s; a hand muff of unsheared beaver pelt from the 1890s. These are currently housed with the Emily P. Reynolds Historic Costume Collection at NDSU.
