Scope and Contents
The Josef Tuchscherer Collection consists of information related to a film, shot at a German exile camp in 1940. Files related to this film include a collection of stills taken from the film, with identifications. Also contained in this collection are photocopied images of portraits of individuals, many of whom are identified, a family history book, materials relating to settlement, one VHS cassette, and one DVD. The collection has been organized into five series: Photocopied Images, Religious Lithographs, Film, Family History, Subject.
The Photocopied Images Series consists of three folders that contain 35 sheets of copies of photographic portraits of groups and individuals from Colelia. Many of these individuals have been identified with a short history.
The Religious Lithographs Series contains two religious lithographs, which date from circa 1890-1920. One is of the Virgin Mary and the other is of the Crucifixion. Also included in this series is one photographic print of the Crucifixion lithograph.
The Film Series contains a video cassette, DVD, and materials related to a short film taken in St. Ludwig Lager (Camp) in Germany on December 27, 1940. This film is considered to be a very rare visual documentation of the movement of the people of Dobrudscha’s exile back to Germany. Also included is commentary about how the donor received the film. Photocopied scans made of stills from the film with some identification are also contained within this collection.
The Family History Series is comprised of an index and a DVD of a family home video made by the Michael Tuchscherer in 1991 which features recollections of Anton and Agatha Tuchscherer. The series also contains some family history information.
The Subject Series consist of one folder of settlement materials. This information relates to the homesteaders of Colelia. The materials are mostly in German, and also included is a map of the settlement of Germans in Saskatchewan.
