Anti-Garb Law materials
Scope and Contents
The Rev. Leonard Eckroth Collection consists of one folder, the Typescripts Series, containing a photocopied copy of an article about North Dakota’s “Anti-Garb Law”, which was written by Linda Grathwohl of Southern Minnesota Legal Services and published in 1993 in University of Nebraska’s Great Plains Quarterly. The Anti-Garb Laws were intended to prohibit nuns who taught in public schools from wearing their religious vestments during the 1930s and 1940s.
Also present within this collection are several electronic media resources. A VHS cassette tape, titled “Bishop Joseph Werth” (2011.52.01) contains footage of a service held in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Strasburg, ND, date unknown. An audio cassette tape (2011.52.02) and a compact disc (2011.52.03) containing the same material, entitled “Mrs. Krumm’s Story”, is also present.
