Scope and Contents
The Dorothy (Taylor) Sanders Collection contains ten textile items, housed at the Emily P. Reynolds Historic Costume Collection, NDSU. The collection also contains one business ledger, dated 1894-1925. Also present are one photocopy of a photograph, one typewritten correspondence, and two gift card tags that were originally found with the textiles. 2010.10.01 Business ledger, 252 pages. German-language record concerning businesses and private citizens with numerous family names and dates. Entries in pencil, blue pencil, black & green ink. 1894 is the earliest entry date, 1925 is the latest entry date. Some of the businesses featured in the ledger include: Bank of Eureka, Rider & Jenin, I W Fallike, Jewett Brothers, Wemoth [Weymouth?] Howard & Co., Finch, Van Slyck & Company, Arnott & Corbett, Standard Oil Company. Some of the names of people mentioned in the ledger are Jakob Schmitt, Christian Zeller, John Pielz, Kasper Holz, Frank Lyon, Ella E Stout, F. Shumacher, York, Nebr, Gottlief Myer, and Ellis Myer. The ledger also features prayers or songs on pages 169-170.
2010.10.02 Photocopy of snapshot, enlarged. Shows two women, young one in full apron of floral print with rickrack trim worn over a sleeveless print dress. Older woman in plain white blouse with ¾ sleeves. May be wearing skirt or apron over skirt. Cord belt ends by right elbow. Inscribed above image: “Came to USA 1889/Johann & Dora Maier. Homesteaded in Eureke [sic] 8 miles w[est] 8 miles So/moved to Moorhead, Minn 1904-1906. Family home was moved to Bonanzaville/Maier Doll house originally now medical collection housed there now.” Inscribed below image: [at left] Magdelina “Maggie” Maier/Taylor 1st/Hanson 2nd 1924. [at right] Dorothea Maier (maiden name: Keller).
2010.10.14 Correspondence. Telegram to RH Hemmesch from GA Erickson, Agent, dated 17 January 1955 from Fargo, North Dakota about birth record for Godfrey Mayer. “I am enclosing this with a book record kept by his father which shows him as being born June 18, 1889.” [See page 54.]
