Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Zeeland Band Collection is a small collection consisting of one photograph. The photograph was donated by Roger Reede on behalf of his mother, Lauretta M. Reede, who was the original owner of the photograph. The image is of the 1931 Zeeland, North Dakota Band. There are thirty-nine men in the photograph, and they are all wearing matching white uniforms and holding their instruments. Only one man has been identified in the photograph. Forth from the right in the front row is F.E. Reede (Ferdinand Edward Reede). He played the trumpet.

According to the 2002 Zeeland Centennial Heritage Calendar, the Zeeland Concert Band was organized in 1908 and “at one time, 50 band members would play for dances…”
