Abstract
The Anna Chisholm Papers document the life and travels of this long-time Fargo resident. Her diaries cover from 1939 to 1950 with an entry for almost every day relating her daily activities. The correspondence is primarily her sponsoring a French war orphan after World War I. Other documents show her involvement with various organizations and her travels to the Eastern United States, Gaspé Peninsula, Mayo Clinic, Moscow, Idaho, and the Southern United States, 1940.

Scope and Contents
Two quite complete pocket diaries kept by Erickson, beginning with his enlistment in August 1917. Diaries become more detailed in late December of 1917. The first volume also includes drill regulations for a wedding. The second diary continues on Nov. 1, 1918. It was a German printed booklet and includes three German (revenue?) stamps. The papers of Gertrude Olson (Sullivan) are comprised entirely of letters received in 1918 and 1919. The majority of these letters are from male friends then at camps around the country, including her future husband, though some are from the battle lines in France. In addition to outstanding depictions of camp living, there are some excellent documentations of daily life.

Started by Issac Herbst in 1891 as a dry goods store, Herbst's survived several fires and continually expanded with stores in Bismarck, Devils Lake, Jamestown and West Acres Shopping Center in Fargo in the 1970s. The store went out of business in 1982.
