His father emigrated from Odessa, Russia in 1907, worked on various farms in Wells County, N.D., and began farming on his own 1921. First wife died in 1929, Harold's mother was from Nebraska, she had moved to N.D. in 1931. Her maiden name was Engel. John "Jack" Miller, born in Cornwall, Ontario, immigrated to Buffalo, N.D. 1910.
