Shotwell's Clothing

In 1912, Cora E. Shotwell and Mary E. Brown opened a store in the Magill Block, selling cloaks and suits. The store was called Brown & Shotwell. In about 1916, Cora Shotwell bought our Mrs. Brown’s interests and opened Shotwell’s Ready to Wear at 604 Front Street (Main Avenue). In about 1919, the business moved to 602 Front Street, where it would remain for nearly sixty-five years. In 1945, Cora Shotwell retired and sold the business to Duncan J. Campbell, who was associated with the deLendrecie’s Department Store, and was a member of the deLendrecie family. When he died in November of 1963, the business went to his widow, Evelyn Campbell. She operated the business until 1978, when it was sold to Keith Ingstad. The business closed in 1983, and the location was taken over by Wimmer’s jewelry store.

Shotwell's changed the facade a few times during its tenure as can be seen in the photographs below. The photograph on the left was taken in 1937 and the photograph on right was taken in 1943.
