First Avenue in the 1910s

The postcard to the right (dated 1913) looks west on 1st Avenue from just past Broadway. On the left of the image we can see the Farmers Supply House, the Nestor (advertising 5 cent cigars and pocket billiards), the Grand, the Improvement Building, the YMCA, and (across Roberts Street), the Gardner Hotel.

On the north side of the street (the viewer's right) we see a building whose name I cannot make out. The window in the upper right advertises "SWEM Photography". Next door we see McGregor's Billiards advertising pool and cigars.

This enlargement of photograph postcard is looking west on 1st Avenue from just west of Broadway about 1915.

On the south side of the avenue (left side of postcard) we can see the Sample Shoe Store, the Red River Land Company, Bernier's (at 612), the Nestor Cigar and Bowling (at 614), the Elks Lodge 260 (at 616), the Grand Theater (at 622), the Improvement Building (the first tall white building--at 624), the YMCA (at 632), and the Gardner Hotel. The International Harvester buildings is visible at the curve in the street west of the Gardner.

On the north side of the avenue (right side of the postcard) we can see a clothing store (with H.U. Rydstrom tailor and the Jacobson Land Company upstairs), the Stone's Piano Company (at 613), McGregor Billiards, Fargo Building Association, and the Pioneer Life Building on the corner.
