Abstract
This thesis examines the implications a building’s history/past has on its future development. It is guided by the idea that some structures are more capable than others in making the transition from one function to another and that the need for this transition is inevitable if the economy in which these structures exist is to survive. The outcome of this research will be realized through the mixed use [re]development of a building located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s, Pabst Brewery complex which will serve to create a sustainable neighborhood that will positively influence the environment, the people who live and/or work there and the financial success of the newly created economy in which it exists.
