This thesis will research and examine the impact that a mental treatment center would have on the chronic mentally ill community by creating a diversion from incarceration and homelessness by offering the necessities of housing and ongoing treatment to facilitate their recovery and entry back into society. As the mentally ill are released from incarceration or a treatment facility they are in need of a support system. Without proper consistant treatment the mentally ill tend to stop treatment believing they are cured and relapse, and others often still suffer from their illness while medicated. These tendencies often result in their cyclical incarceration and a community that remains homeless. A community based housing environment will be a method to examine a potential diversion from seclusion, incarceration, and homelessness for the chronic mentally ill.
