Abstract
The basis of this thesis project stems from exploring relationships between film and architecture by examining the question: “Can the cinematic experience be enhanced by a socially focused and interactive built environment?” While viewing a film we occupy the space between a light source and the projected image. Our perceptions of time and space become augmented, where our standard reality becomes enhanced as we are able to further understand ourselves through the fiction presented. Our participation as a spectator is not pas¬sive, as we are actively engaging with the fiction presented. This cinema is located in the Mill District of Minneapolis. I aim to create a lasting impression on moviegoers by inviting them to become participatory members within the cinematic setting of this theater.
