This thesis intends to establish a new interpretation of the museum - a museum that is solely influenced by the presence or absence of sensory interaction through installations. Architectural installations have the ability to inspire individuals through dramatic or subtle artistic movements that fill an entire space. It is a moment that cannot be replayed because the installations are only a portion of the experience. What makes the installation so inspiring are the individuals that surround you and the excitement or emotion that is experienced together. In this project the architecture acts as its own installation - a dynamic performance and filter that transitions the user through varying spatial conditions. Built on a peninsula just north of the Chicago River, the site is a prime location to take on lake swept winds, long sun exposures and various intensities of sound from Lake Shore Drive. This thesis transforms the modern museum from a collection of art and into a collection of unforgettable artistic experiences.
