As cities strive to become more walkable, considerate of bicyclists, and more accommodating of mass transit, one has to ask how current arterial roadways can be retrofitted to allow for all modes of transportation. Downtown Fargo has several major transit corridors, three of which have or are in the process of being redesigned to enhance the urban street life. This thesis examines the possibility of a redesign of Main Avenue to accommodate new modes of transportation while connecting urban destinations within the downtown Fargo neighborhood. Other key factors that play a role in the redesign of this transit corridor are safety concerns, and economic development. The end result is an aesthetically pleasing, functional, and unique streetscape that enhances the neighborhood and the urban vitality of the downtown core.en_US
