dc.description.abstract | This project explores the central issues surrounding the Northern Cascades National Park (NCNP) complex, and their relationships to the conservation efforts and protocol of the park’s system. These issues are: local industrial operations for natural resources, sub-alpine tree overgrowth/invasion, and facility underuse. All of these current disparages within the park directly relate to critical habitat hubs. This project examines all of these main issues, with an emphasis on the impact each one carries on specific refuge zones in the Northern Cascades. Integrated conservation and development projects (ICDPs) are hypothetical design outlines created for specific sites or site typologies seeking to implement a balance between environmental elements and human development. This works from both directions; ICDPs can either introduce natural elements to a primarily developed site, or vice versa. Aside from an analysis of existing site disparages, this project will also serve as an evidence-based foundation to create a site-specific ICDP for Northern Cascades National Park. | en_US |
