| dc.description.abstract | This Thesis is a social housing project for refugees from recent conflicts in the middle east and aims to provide a good standard of living compared to what is usually available to refugees. There will be millions of people who will go below the poverty line as well as those who become displaced in the coming years and social housing projects in the United States historically haven’t always been successful. By researching what has been done for this type of project and researching into the properties of standard of living in architecture and designing through logical iteration and simulation I will design a modular prefabricated housing system that can elevate the standard of living for those with less money without compromising on basic needs. The design will be extremely efficient and will emulate passivehaus principles wherever possible while being mindful of cost, efficiency, and green building principles. The site of Downtown Fargo, North Dakota offers a rich environment where public space is near and if newcomers embrace will be able to quickly pull themselves out of their unfortunate situation. | en_US |
