dc.description | Michael Martin Miller donated the Agnes Baumgartner Wudtke (deceased in 1985) and Philippine Baumgartner Berglund (deceased in 2004) Collection in 2005. Michael Miller was nephew of Agnes and Philipine. The collection contains the family history of the Baumgartner’s, who assimilated in Emmons County from South Russia (Odessa Province) southwestern Ukraine and achieved education professions.
Peter Miller son of Peter and Agnes (Schreiner) Miller, born at the Catholic Village of Krasna, Bessarabia, South Russia (now Ukraine). Peter and Agnes emigrated from Bessarabia to Emmons County, North Dakota in 1894, settling west of Strasburg, North Dakota. Mary Baumgartner is the daughter of Michael and Otillia (Wolf) Baumgartner. Michael and Otillia were born in the Black Sea Catholic Village of Strasburg, South Russia (near Odessa, Ukraine), immigrated to Strasburg, North Dakota in 1889. Michael Baumgartner and Otillia Wolf married in 1905.
Frank and Tillie- Husband and wife. Agnes and Frank were siblings. Frank travelled around for work as an auditor at an accounting firm. The collection has letters from his travels. Agnes went into education and taught children. The collection has many of her teaching certificates and letters from her students.
The collection includes various family histories, series including genealogy, education, photographs, and multimedia. The family used film to record their time in various places while on vacation and visiting family on trips. In addition, there are many scrapbooks as well, that belonged to Agnes and Philipine that show their early life, on to college and their later years starting their families of their own. | en_US |
