| dc.description.abstract | With an ever-growing world population, our cities, along with communities have continued to
grow. The population in Kansas City Missouri, and the surrounding metropolitan area has increased
each year. In 2018 the population was at 491,918 people. The city has a greater density than the
surrounding metropolitan area at 1,472 people per square mile. With over population and growing
communities on the rise, buildings are evolving daily.
As buildings get demolished, another one is being built in its place. As city planners and
developers attempt to connect better integrated designs within a city, the design of mixed-use
buildings are increasing. However, a problem we are beginning to see is the lack of public and
green spaces throughout these new developments and designs. My project will be a re-design
of the Downtown Kansas City and Metropolitan area. This will include existing residential and
commercial buildings. I will twist these existing designs. I plan to incorporate a new focus on a
mixed-use design by developing more public and green spaces within my design that provides
more of a pedestrian connection.
My focus will be on different growth management strategies for Downtown Development by
connecting mixed-use design to their surrounding areas. This building will not only connect to the
city, but also to the overall urban setting within the community. Some challenges I will face will be
different zoning laws and the amount of usable space throughout downtown. New construction
within my site may be necessary, however, the design will include sustainability, and have positive
effects on not only the environment, but society itself. | en_US |
