Simple Nurture: Weaving Motherhood and Community

Abstract
There are community centers in nearly every city that are used
to some extent. Some are good and some are bad. In most
cases, the existence of a community is a prerequisite for the
construction of a community center. This proposal wishes to
break that norm and use the existence of a community center
to create a community.
Among minority demographics (in this case, the demographics
of women and children), there are many injustices- from
domestic to social to medical. This thesis proposes the
creation of a community center that will foster relationships
among a group of women in Papillion, Nebraska, in order to
empower them and offer easy access to resources.
The research will highlight the key architectural elements that
contribute to creating a sense of comfort within a space, the
resources which are most helpful to women, and the existing
projects that already solved some of these key issues.
