Abstract
Architecture has influenced human life from the beginning of time. There is no
doubt that it changes the way we perceive the world and everything in it. The
focus of this thesis research is the ability for architecture to change the way
people live in the built environment.
The built environment influences living conditions, hence lifestyle.
One of the most astounding facts of architecture is its ability to be formed and
interpreted differently around the world.
This thesis research strives to bridge the gap between the built environment
and how inhabitants interact and are influenced by it. To study the ability for the
built environment to positively influence the lifestyle and mindset of its inhabitants
in the form of residential single-family homes. Correlation Research and
Case Studies are to be highly utilized to determine the correlation of single-family
homes in Scandinavian Countries such as Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark,
and Iceland; and the Midwest Region of the United States. Additionally,
Qualitative Research in the form of past and present interaction, experiences,
and interviews will provide a solid foundation of research presented from the
inhabitants themselves.
