Abstract
With existing architectural structures all over the world, an unlucky portion are often abandoned and demolished within time to be replaced by a newly constructed building. The reality of this, however, is the new construction buildings that are erected above the previous building locations aren’t built to maintain a long life, the process of these new buildings is only wasting an opportunity that could have been taken to revitalize these existing structures that have been sitting lifeless for years. The theoretical premise in this design thesis, is how can an existing building be repurposed in a way that matches or exceeds the functionality and performance of a newly constructed building at the same geographical location, with the precaution of limiting demolition / construction additions to the existing structure? In efforts to answer this question, extensive qualitative, correlational and simulation research, with additional case study research will be conducted to format a design for a revitalized mixed-use entertainment establishment from an existing property owned through the Fargo Park District.
