Front Street in 1873

Front Street in 1873.

This picture of Front Street (now Main Avenue) was taken in 1873. Although the photograph is labeled 1876, It was more likely taken in 1873. It was likely taken from the Headquarters Hotel (built in 1872). The wooden tower on the extreme right is for an artesian water well. It was located at about Broadway and Sixth Street.

The buildings (and tents) that you see are all facing north along Front Street. The two-story building in the center right was the Egbert Building, according to Andrew McHench. It stood about where the new Fargo National Bank now stands.
