Hotel Annex

The Hotel Annex was located on Front Street (Main Avenue) at the head of Broadway, next to Moody's, as can be seen in the photograph to the right of a parade marching north on Broadway. The site of the Annex was formerly the Plaza Hotel, which was destroyed by fire on December 27, 1911. The building was rebuilt in 1913, and opened as the Hotel Annex, operated by Robert K. Keller and William E. Boyd, owners of the Hotel Waldorf. They had the hotel until November 1917 when it went under the management of J. A. Harding. The hotel advertised, in 1918, 55 rooms for $1 and 25 rooms with a bath for$1.50. By 1922 the hotel was run by Dee Reade, who in turn sold the hotel in March 1932 to Charles S. Fort. Mr. Fort completely renovated the lobby and 72 guest rooms and renamed it the Fort Hotel.
