Tweeden Hotel

In 1902 Amos Tweeden built a small one story pool hall at 413 N.P. Avenue. By 1909 he had significantly added on to the building creating the Tweeden Hotel. The hotel had 100 rooms and was conducted on the European plan. The building featured a restaurant, barbershop, bowling alley, and billiard hall. Mr. Tweeden was an adventurous businessman, and when the opportunity arose, he built the Princess Theatre on the adjoining lot to the west. The theater opened on September 7, 1914, with the movie “The Perils of Pauline”. Amos Tweeden died in 1926, and his widow Oline and son Ned managed the hotel for a few years. By 1948, the hotel was managed by Carl J. and Alice Iverson. They apparently bought the hotel, and renamed it the Iverson Hotel in the late 1940s.
