Not Even Jail: A Center for the Achievement of Greater Understanding
Abstract
This thesis is an experiment, addressing the fundamental relationship that exists between people and the built environment. More specifically, this thesis seeks to understand the power of architecture as a means of social influence or change. To explore this relationship, a 77-unit retreat center, located in Western North Dakota was designed to promote an individual's level of understanding. Not even jail: a Center for the Achievement of Greater Understanding, is the existential vehicle in which I sought understanding of what it means design our environment.
