Digital Fabrication Lab Redesign and Expansion, featuring the CoLab:

A Space for Students Designed by Students

In the spring of 2021, a group of NDSU Interior Design students (Carolyn Hoffmann, Kendra Borgen, Jesse Price, Hannah Schumacher, and Parker Johnson) created a proposal to redesign the Digital Fabrication Lab as a class project. They envisioned the revamped lab as a collaborative, inspiring space for students to express their creativity, learn new skills, and showcase their work. To learn more about their experience and the project, visit the related news article.

Work on the interior of the Digital Fabrication Lab and the adjoining CoLab was completed over the summer. The new CoLab features flexible seating, individual workstations, and white boards for students to collaborate on projects and assignments. The final phase of the project will include installation of an interactive SMART Board in the CoLab and the creation of a glass façade to tie Digital Fabrication Lab and the CoLab together. Scroll through the pictures and renderings below to see the newly remodeled spaces and what the students have in mind for the façade.

We are very excited and inspired by the students’ vision for the Digital Fabrication Lab and the CoLab and ask for your support to help complete the project.
