The NDSU Department of History, Philosophy and Religious Studies and NDSU Libraries are set to host the National History Day southeast regional competition on Friday, March 6, in the Memorial Union.
Middle and high school students will present their projects and compete for a spot in the National History Day North Dakota state competition on April 17 at the North Dakota Heritage Center and Museum in Bismarck. Select winners at the state level earn the opportunity to compete in the national contest at the University of Maryland, College Park, June 14-18.
“History Day is a wonderful way for students to engage in learning history. Participants not only create a project tailored to their strengths, but they also develop valuable skills from communication to critical thinking,” said Ashley Baggett, NDSU assistant professor of history and National History Day regional director. “The Department of History, Philosophy and Religious Studies is thrilled to host the Fargo regional and provide our local community with an opportunity to inspire a love of learning and a love of history.”
This year’s National History Day theme is “Breaking Barriers in History.” The competition is divided by grade level (middle and high school) and by categories: Documentary, Exhibit, Performance, Website and Paper.
