Institute for Regional Studies Archives Book Collection

Since its founding, the Institute for Regional Studies Archives has made collecting North Dakota publications a priority, developing an impressive collection that touches on almost every facet of the state’s history. Strengths include North Dakota county, community, church, family, business and organization histories; atlases; and periodicals. A separate Lawrence Welk Publications Collection is also located at the Institute. It complements the extensive archival holdings at NDSU, documenting one of North Dakota’s famous native sons. All books and publications can be found in the online catalog.

University Archives Book Collection

The University Archives also maintains a collection of books and periodicals related to North Dakota State University. Included are undergraduate and graduate course catalogs, Agassiz and Bison annuals, telephone and alumni directories, annual budget and payroll volumes, and a wide variety of other NDSU-related publications. Many departmental and specialized publications are not cataloged, but are located as part of the records of the issuing university office.

Access

All books and periodicals are located in the NDSU Archives Research Room, where researchers can use or browse the collection. Books are arranged in the Library of Congress classification system. NDSU Archives staff members are available to provide research assistance.

Items in the Book Collections do not circulate and are not available through Interlibrary Loan. Please contact the NDSU Archives for information about obtaining copies of materials.

Recommending and Donating Books to the NDSU Archives

Every effort is made to seek out titles to enhance our holdings, especially in areas deemed important by students and faculty for both current and future teaching and research. We welcome recommendations for items to purchase as well as donations of North Dakota-related new publications. Donations must be within the scope of the Institute’s collection development policy. When donating books, please fill out the NDSU Libraries Donation Form, and include with the donation.
