NDSU Libraries’ subscription to Academic Video Online (also called “AVON”) features a variety of videos suitable for education and entertainment purposes: documentaries, interviews, feature films, news, and more. Patrons can enjoy Academy- and Emmy- award winners, as well as titles frequently used for classroom instruction.
With more than 70,000 titles available, AVON features something for everyone. Subject specialties include: history, news, diversity studies, business, education, anthropology, science, politics, nursing, fashion, art, music, dance, and more.
Picture a Scientist, RBG, An Inconvenient Sequel, The Hunting Ground, and Human Nature are only a handful of recently popular documentary titles on the platform. August 2021 additions to the collection include:
- Ballerina Boys, about male ballerinas who present dazzling ballet parody;
- Covid-19: Managing Community Anxiety, Self-Care and Helping Our Clients, a presentation recorded by mental health practitioners during the pandemic;
- Milwaukee 53206, an examination of the zip code which incarcerates the highest percentage of black men in America; and,
- Built to Last, which explains hidden risks and how to make homes safer in a world of increasing natural disasters.
