Collection Highlight: Chronicling America

old newspaper

Chronicling America is an opensource database produced by the National Digital Newspaper Program that provides access to historic U.S. newspapers and select digitized newspaper pages. This resource is wonderful for historic research, or, for October, a wealth of spooky stories, superstitions, monsters (real and metaphorical), or just the frightening “cures” of the past (radium water, yum!).

Search America's historic newspaper pages from 1777-1963 or use the U.S. Newspaper Directory to find information about American newspapers published between 1690-present. Chronicling America is sponsored jointly by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Library of Congress. Learn more here.

For questions about this resource and other library resources and services, contact Susanne Caro, Government Information Librarian, or another subject librarian.
