Textiles and clothing share the material culture of the Germans from Russia. For example, the women brought hand-woven shawls from Russia to the Northern Plains. Dr. Ann Braaten, curator of the Emily P. Reynolds Historic Costume Collection at NDSU, writes, "Artifacts, including shawls, can reveal the beliefs, values, ideas, attitudes and assumptions of a particular community." Donations of textiles and clothing to the GRHC are housed at the Emily P. Reynolds Historic Costume Collection in the Katherine Kilbourne Burgum Family Life, 4H Center.
