North Dakota sits on land that was first home to the Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara, Dakota, Lakota, and Anishinaabeg peoples. As we recognize, celebrate, and honor the enduring legacies and contributions of indigenous peoples during National Native American Heritage Month, NDSU Libraries provide a variety of resources to help you learn about and engage with the past, present, and future of indigenous peoples and cultures.

The Tribal and Indigenous Peoples Studies research guide connects you to works of scholarship, fiction, poetry, and art by indigenous authors. Several journals dedicated to indigenous studies are available among the Libraries’ online resources, including American Indian Quarterly and the Journal of the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association. A unique item in the Libraries’ collection is the archives of “For Eagles to be Crows,” a series that ran on KDSU radio from 1973-1974. The NDSU Archives holds recordings and transcripts of each of the 23 episodes, as well as dozens of oral interviews recorded for the show. Several of the episodes have also been digitized, and are available to stream online at Digital Horizons.
